Highlight Campaign: Rebranding Colosimo’s Sausage

Love Communications recently unveiled a humorous and distinctive marketing campaign for one of its newest clients, longtime local business Colosimo’s Sausage, a Utah fixture for more than 80 years.

In the past 4-6 months, Love Communications has completed a total rebranding process for Colosimo’s, a campaign that launched in the Utah market in mid-December. The advertising includes new logo and design work for Colosimo’s main line of products – including Colosimo’s Mild Italian Sausage, Spicy Italian Sausage, Tuscan Red Wine Sausage and Original Bratwurst products.

In addition, Love Communications has produced the first two in a series of radio spots – featuring parody characters called “The Colosimo Brothers.”

And Love Communications has introduced an outdoor component to the Colosimo’s campaign, which includes billboards with humorous headlines like, “The Sausage Others Envy,” “Others Just Don’t Measure Up,” “Even Our Wurst Is The Best,” and “You Make The Jokes. We’ll Make The Sausage.” The billboards have been seen in and around the Salt Lake City metropolitan area.

All told, the Love Communications’ creative team has given the Colosimo’s line of products an extraordinarily fresh look, updated significantly with classic earth tone colors to underscore the “old world flavor” of Colosimo’s. The labels feature the line, “The Sausage People. Since 1923.” Eventually, Colosimo’s 35 types of sausage will be color-coded so customers will be able to easily recognize the new-look labels and logo on store shelves.

Aprons, T-shirts and other merchandise options featuring the new colors and themes are now available at Colosimo’s primary retail location, 8745 South 700 East in Sandy, a store owned and operated by brothers Paul, Larry and Joe Colosimo.

Early reaction to the campaign has been almost uniformly positive. Sales are up, and additional Utah grocers are now distributing Colosimo’s Sausage.

“It’s been a thrill for us to have the chance to work with the Colosimo’s,” Tom Love of Love Communications said. “Their success and history in this market speaks for itself. For our agency to have the opportunity to help them reinvigorate their brand has been a fulfilling challenge for all of us.”
